The strength of the pack is the wolf... and the strength of the wolf is the pack. |

Team Boulder is now in its 8th year of providing a quality basketball experience to middle school girls in the Boulder, Colorado area. Last year we hand an 8th grade team, a 7th grade team and two 6th grade teams. In the past we have had 3-5 teams each year. Tryouts are held each year during the last week in August or the first week in September. Girls from all schools in the Boulder Valley School District are encouraged to tryout. We have fed over 85% of the starters on all teams into Boulder and Fairview. We have also had Gold Crown feeder teams from Peak to Peak, Monarch and Centaurus High Schools. |

We usually start practicing twice a week right after Labor Day, continuing through February. In the fall, we play in the Northern Colorado Girls Basketball League in Ft. Collins or the Magic League in Boulder. We play two tournaments in the fall. We practice at local BVSD gyms. During the holidays we usually have open gyms for the club and try to play in Gold Crown Scrimmage Days over winter break. From January through the first week in March, we play in the Gold Crown League. |
During the spring, we usually have open gyms and some teams play spring leagues. This year all 4 teams chose to play in the spring. Unfortunately this year we had so many of our girls at open gyms we were unable to open them to outside players. However, we will do this whenever it is possible. Each night at open gyms we have several coaches on hand to organize full-court scrimmages, run drills and supervise other games. The girls have the opportunity to work on their individual skills and meet other players. |
In the past, Team Boulder has held a week-long summer evening camp. At the camp we focused on fundamental skill development that is appropriate for the different age groups. Each evening we would teach a variety of skills, including ball-handling, shooting rebounding, passing and defense. Each session also included a variety of games to put these skills to practice. At each mid-session break, the campers would hear a short talk given by a Team Boulder coach or guest speaker. Past speakers at the camp have included former CU Assistant Coach, LaTonya Watson, University of S.F. Head Coach , Tanya Haave, CSU Head Coach, Jen Warden, former BHS Varsity Coach, Greg Ford, Fairview High School Varsity Coach, Rod Beauchamp and CU standout Jenny Roulier. We have not offered our camp in the past few years due to a glut of quality camps in the area. However, if the need arises again, we will offer this camp to interested girls. |
Currently we have been running a free clinic in August. We have found that many girls like to find out more about Gold Crown, refine their skills in a stress-free environment and give the parents the opportunity to see the Team Boulder coaches at work. We encourage all girls to come. It is just plain fun. |
